Objectives

This webinar provides a conceptual understanding of gaming and gaming disorder, how to classify it, and explores ways gaming and gambling are converging. Clinicians will learn more about the similarities and differences between gaming and gambling disorders. We explore how to have the conversation with clients that do not present with a gaming disorder, but may be at-risk or develop a gaming disorder after recovery from gambling. Special guest and expert Dr. Stephanie Diez-Morel shares about the identification of, early intervention and treatment strategies, as well as how we can pursue expertise in gaming disorders.

  • Describe the historical and modern context of technology misuse and addiction as a concept

  • Identify the classifications of technology misuse as problematic internet use and/or problematic video gaming or Internet Gaming Disorder

  • Identify some gambling related risks which are present in gaming

  • Articulate the ways gaming and gambling are converging

  • Identify early intervention and treatment strategies for individuals including screens and assessments

  • Discuss how to obtain more training and expertise in gaming disorders
